Spring Festival

This weekend the outdoor mall we live right next to had a Spring Festival.  There was entertainment, and food, and raffles....all that jazz.  But the definite highlight was the firetruck.  Tanner didn't want to get out, but the fireman insisted when he started to push all the buttons!

Riding Buddies

When we go anywhere in the car, if Jake or Tanner have something in their hand they usually end up passing it back and forth to each other across the back seat of the car.  It may be a bag of fishies or cheerios that Tanner has and so nicely shares with Jake (meanwhile half of them are dropped all over the back seat), or cars that they bring with them in the car.  They think this is a fun game and it keeps them pretty entertained.  Well, the other day as I was putting Jake in his seat, I  gave him a highlighter to suck on, because it was in the car for some reason, and then I forgot to take it back from him before I started driving.  10 minutes later, I am on my phone and Tanner says "Mom...will you draw me a smiley face?"!  I turn around and Jake's mouth was totally orange(this picture doesn't do it justice) and Tanner was drawing all over him self!  He also told me that he was coloring his nails like I do!  How sweet!:) So lessons learned....Jake has now reached a new level and can take off caps of markers....so don't give  him anything like that!  I think he bit the cap of the actual marker off...gross!....and that is why his mouth was so orange.  Second lesson...remind Tanner that only girls paint their nails....not boys!  His Dad would be so proud!  I proceeded to find highlighter all over their clothes and in random spots throughout the day!  Good times! 

Jake is 1

Happy Birthday to one of the sweetest little fellows in our little Cardon family of 4!  Jake turned 1 today!  I cannot even believe that a year has gone by.  It feels like this last year was a complete whirlwind and yet so much has happened!  Jake has really developed a fun and wild personality!   He is the best sleeper ever IF he has his bed!  He does not know what to do with himself if he is tired and can't just go to his bed.  He will just spin circles on your lap and will not for the life of him lay down on your shoulder and just go to sleep! He is too much of a wiggle worm!  He will never just sit still in your lap....he is constantly on the go.  He is sooooo playful too!  He wants to wrestle with his Daddy and Tanner all the time.  It is hilarious!  He is constantly trying to keep up with Tanner and thinks that his older brother is the best thing that ever happened to him!  He will just stare at him sometimes with the biggest smile on his face and I swear he is thinking "I want to be just like you when I grow up!".  He loves loves loves basketballs...like most boys his age.  And of course takes after his brother on his love of anything with an engine, which is nice, because we have a lot of cars and trucks!!  He will just push them around everywhere and is totally content doing so.  But speaking of cars....Jake does not enjoy the car at all unless he gets to play in the drivers seat!  Every time we go to put him in his carseat, he gets as stiff as a board and lets out a little scream!  I don't know why though, because his carseat looks pretty comfortable to me! He isn't walking by himself quite yet, but he is well on his way.  And I am not too concerned about that, because once he starts he is really going to be all over the place! He is such a mover though....and a dancer!  Whenever he hears any kind of music he gets so excited and starts to bob his head or crawls right to someone because he wants to dance with them.  

We aren't going to celebrate his birthday until Sunday when things aren't so crazy and Doug will be around.  This little guy sure loves his daddy!  Whenever Doug leaves Jake bawls and if Doug even hints to the fact that he is leaving by saying goodbye before or anything like that, Jake does whatever he can to get Doug to hold him...in hopes that he can go with him.  It is too cute.  

A year went by way too fast!!!  We love you Jakey!

We Finally Made It!

So we finally made it to Virginia!  What a day and what a nightmare our flight was!  Thank goodness Melissa was flying with me, because if not my nightmare would have been even worse than what it was.  She kept asking me the whole flight how I constantly fly across the country by myself with these two little boys...and I said, "I honestly don't know how I do it, but I sweat most the flight and I usually make really good friends with people I have never seen before on my flights."  Of course this time the boys were sooooo good, but trying to handle the boys on the flight was not my problem.  Let me explain.  I specifically booked a nonstop flight from Phoenix to Dulles(DC) so that we could fly 4 1/2 hours straight.  Well, we had to do an emergency landing into Chicago because the pilots could not get one of the plane generators to reboot.  So we landed and sat on the plane for a while as the flight attendants and pilots kept telling us that we would most likely be taking off again shortly.  During this time, Tanner made very good friends with the flight attendants getting all the first class food and eventually made his way up to the cockpit(sp?) where the pilots were letting him look at all the cool buttons and showing him how it was like Christmas with all the lights up there!  He was loving life!  Well, a while turned into an hour....and eventually they let us off the plane.  20 minutes passed and they cancelled the entire flight.  So now we are stuck in Chicago.  They ended up getting us on another flight with a totally different airline that flew into Reagan National which is downtown DC.  As we were rushing to try and make that flight having to go through security and do all that business again, the security guy decided that he was going to be funny and chose us to do their special check on at security!  Well, it wasn't funny...we had the double stroller, Melissa's labtop, the portable DVD player, sippy cups, bottles, and all sorts of bags and backpacks.  All things that have to come out of the bags!  I mean, I am basically a pro when it comes to flying with all that stuff...but they still have to check all of it and it took forever! Do we really look like a threat!?  So then we barely make it on our flight and instead of getting here at 4:30pm that afternoon, we arrived at 9:30pm that night.  It took the boys a good 3 to 4 days to adjust to the time difference, so they were going to bed rather late and waking up rather late too...but now we are back on our schedule, which I love!  I really love it back East.  It is beautiful right now with all the blossoms, and it felt like we never left.  We are living in the same complex as last year, I totally know my way around, and I actually feel really comfortable here.  Tanner didn't even skip a beat....he remembered his nursery teachers at church and actually walked with them to class from Sacrament.  I swear he remembers everything!  He does repeatedly tell me that we don't have to go to the doctor so I am pretty sure he remembers that this is where he broke his leg!:) But most of all, it was great to be reunited with Doug!  We all missed him soooo much!

In Transition...

So April has creeped it's way here way way too fast! I feel like we just got back from Virginia, yet it has been 6 months and we are headed out that direction again already! Crazy how time flies! Doug left last week to head to Virginia where we will spend the next 6 months and I will meet him there when I fly with the boys this next week. No...I decided against driving the 10000000's of miles and hours across the country with a two year old and an almost one year old! I guess maybe I wouldn't have minded if we took like two weeks to do the drive...stopping each night and sleeping and maybe do some sight-seeing....but that is not Doug's idea of fun...and quite frankly not mine either.....so I guess I would have minded!:) We are bunking up with my sister for the next couple of days before we head out! Thanks goodness too because I packed up all our sources of entertainment that I had for my boys and either sent it to our storage unit or I sent it with Doug! Everyday Tanner asks if we are going to go on a trip to "Gaginia" and see Daddy and his cars(which I sent as well)! It will be like Christmas when we get there and he gets to unpack his toys.....and it will also be like Christmas when we get back and we take out the rest of the toys from storage! Who needs to buy new things...just hide them for a while!:) I am excited to get situated in our new place back East and grateful that at least I have some sense of direction around that place this time around. It took me all last summer to figure it out...but now I have a much better idea....plus I know all sorts of doctors since last summer brought all sorts of medical drama in our lives!! So I am not worried there! So I am sorry about the lack of posts, but once I get situated again I will do better. I am about to start making my blog into a book...has anyone does this yet? If you have, please send any tips my way! I forget the website that does it right now, but that is one of my summer projects...along with my digital scrapbooks! Hopefully I can get something accomplished! Right now this is all I can do to stay up to date with our lives!
